Local promoter Micky P brings his Fired Up night to Portobello

Local promoter Micky P brings his Fired Up night to Portobello

New regular and bigger night by Micky P comes to Mode in Acklam Road. Starts this Thursday 23rd.

Micky P has been promoting events across London for many years, including regular nights at the Café the Paris in Piccadilly, and in several venues in Islington, Camden and of course in Portobello/Ladbroke Grove.

He currently has Fired Up night at House of Wolf in Islington, and at the Undersolo in Camden.  Locally, he has The Guinea Club at the Portobello House, the Accousticity at the Eagle (in partnership with James Simmins) and he’s now bringing his biggest night Fired Up at the Mode (formally Subterranea and SupperClub). Schedule as a monthly event to showcase the very best in bands from the area – and there are plenty of them around.

Micky P hosting

Micky P is a great host with years of experience behind him – his events are second to none. It’s great news that a bigger night is being offered in the area - It will certainly increase our choice, plus given his wealth of contacts we can expect a very good range of quality performers.

So what to expect for the first salvo? Rock and Roll, including:

PINK CIGAR

One of  the most exciting young band to emerge from the current crop of UK rock n' roll talent.

Hailing from the infamous streets of Ladbroke Grove in the west side of London, the bluesy-glam-punk-rock n roll quartet have spent the last couple of years honing their musical chops and earning their dues playing live, thundering through the capital's rock scene and breaking down the walls of every venue they grace, bringing an intensity and energy that just can't be bought and needs to be experienced.

LIPSTICK MELODIES

They took over The Lock Tavern in Camden, confirming their place as one of London’s best kept secrets. Although the band are unsigned (which remains one of life’s great mysteries), they are no strangers to the music industry, especially their lead singer Alan Wass who has featured on both The Libertines and Peter Doherty tracks as well as touring with well established artists.

The cult band drew flocks of people to the intimate venue, all eager to witness their exceptional brand of Blues/Rock ‘n Roll. The band boasts a new line-up including additional members on guitar and saxophone which really completes the band who seem to have a real comradeship.

Alan is all smiles tonight; sporting his typical flamboyant attire, he greets everyone and thanks them for coming out, then rips straight into ‘No protection’. The catchy chorus driven by Wass’s 60’s Rock inspired vocals see’s the audience singing along in harmony. Next up is ‘Go it alone’, followed by the infectious ‘Runaway Blues’ which has the tightly crammed audience dancing along, as much as you can with minimal space anyway. ‘Mother of Mary’ is up next, it’s clear that this band is on a mission to bring back the Rock ‘n’ Roll scene we are so deprived of nowadays. Every track is a classic.

DIRTY STRANGERS

The band continue to attract adoring crowds and high-profile admirers alike (a recent gig at London’s Borderline they were joined on stage by Stones sax legend Bobby Keys and Brian James) and deliver high-energy everyman rock’n’roll no audience ever fails to relate to. No wonder, as Clayton leads the band through high-energy slices of life about everything from hoodlums to Gold Cortinas and, yes, good old-fashioned love stories. It’s dirty rock’n’roll – and you’ll like it.

JULIETTE AND THE SIN

Two-man band playing blues/rock and roll/psychedelia/garage. Stripped down musically and physically. Has been referred to as a "sexy psychedelic bluesy sound"
