"Spreading Gossip" is the title of her solo exhibition.
Born in Rio de Janeiro where her passion for painting manifested itself. Sensuality and a love for manipulation of paint drive her work. Seeking to impose her identity as a painter, Shashou has developed a diverse practice incorporating both portraiture and abstract work with a constant dialogue and tension between abstraction and realism.
She is now living and working in London.
Her unique ability of using mixed media brings life to some of the most iconic celebrities of our times. Using found objects such as porcelain dishes and news paper clippings, Sandra creates larger than life portraits of the world’s most iconic people! The show focuses on gossip and the media’s use of rumor.

British Icons Portraits
The most recent portraits are a series representing well-known British individuals, icons of British public life. The images are constructed through a complex layering of newspaper cuttings, introducing a fragmented narrative, while the tonal values of the newspaper are integrated into the image through adjacent layers of paint.
Viewing the work from a distance, the collaged and painted elements coalesce into an instantly recognisable image, the face of a well-known personage, while closer examination gives the viewer the reward of a literal reading of the face, snippets of articles partially legible through the paint, while the varied weight, touch and colour of paint marks is both sensual material experience and visual interpretation of character and expression.
