Salvage City at Acklam Village 3 Acklam Road W10 5TY
Open Friday 18 to Sunday 20 July, and Wednesday 23 to Sunday 27 July | 13:00 to 22:00
InTRANSIT 2014 celebrates the borough’s motto “dwelling in unity” with a vision of the future city where people and environments are salvaged and brought together to collage a beautifully dynamic plate. Join us at Salvage City and re-imagine the notion of home, exploring how we reconfigure our surroundings in such densely populated urban spaces.
Key to the environment are a number of art installations including structures designed by architect/artists Zoë Fudge and you&me that transform the public realm into a domestic scene giving intimacy in public spaces and casting questions about privatization in urban renewal plans; Kin’s giant bird nest sound installation containing domestic soundscapes that can be eavesdropped upon; Geoff Tibbs’s hidden ‘raree’ peep-show revealing worlds within worlds; and Natasha Vicars’s photographic collection of borough residents’ home environments integrated into furnishings scattered around the area as an invitation to Salvage City.
InTRANSIT at Salvage City kicks off with a Wedding Party that irreverently celebrates the ultimate act of unity! Other ‘City’ highlights include The Hip-Hop Shakespeare, theatrical cycle rides, Loo Tours, revolution and specially-curated cinema events.

CSM MA NARRATIVE ENVIRONMENTS -
JACQUETTA WANG, YI-CHUN CHEN, YIHE BAI
MA Narrative Environments at Central Saint Martins in London is a multidisciplinary course focusing on designing spaces through a narrative approach: places and people form a continuum, actively communicating, contesting and generating meanings. These meanings can be understood through a narrative lens, and form a design strategy to create physical interventions in social, environmental and commercial contexts. Three students from different backgrounds will collaborate with InTransit Festival this year and create memorable participatory experiences.
Special thanks to Yizhen Jiang from CSM MA Communication Design for designing Salvage City logo.
