Chris Sullivan and I have recently started a weekly radio show called Portobello Radio. It’s every Friday from 1pm – 3 on Kilburn to Kensal Radio (KtoKradio.com). It’s local radio for local people and it’s on the internet.
The music is first class. The core of the musical policy is Funk, particularly 1969-75, but we play Soul, Reggae, and any kind of funky music. We might take requests but no-one has asked us yet.
We also have guests and we chat. Recently conversation has turned inexorably to the Westway Trust’s sinister plans for Portobello Village. Chris started a petition of protest, went off to Austin, Texas for a week and when he returned, he found that 12,000 people had signed it. But we talk about other stuff.
This Friday, our guests were Murray Lachlan Young, the poet and playwright, and Founder of The Idler, Tom Hodgkinson. Conversation turned to cycling, the Welsh Language, the creative processes of an alcoholic, the joy of idling and the forthcoming festival over May Day Bank Holiday, Portobello Live.
We would love to have you as a listener. Try the most recent show. If you like it, get involved via the Facebook Group, tell your friends, come see us at Portobello Live.
