CLASH LEGEND SET TO ROCK KENSAL GREEN FOR ONE-OFF CHARITY GIG

Clash legend Mick Jones is just part of an eclectic bill of artists who will be performing a special one-off charity event at William IV, Kensal Green, London, on Friday, March 13th.

The event, ‘Give Me Shelter’ is the fifth in a series of events from KensalTownFund, a charity group launched in 2005 in response to the Asia Tsunami, which supports charities all around the world.

The March event will be in aid of Shelter and WaterAid, with all proceeds and 50% of the bar takings going to charity. Mick Jones, the former Clash and Audio Dynamite front man, will appear with his new band, The Rotting Hill Gang, which was formed early last year.

Also performing is:

The Delinquents, the band behind three tracks on the acclaimed new cinema documentary about Nancy Spurgen, girlfriend of Sex Pistols singer Sid Vicious. The film, ‘Who Killed Nancy?’ launches in February and the band will play the tracks to a live audience for the first time. Delinquents lead singer, Steve Dior (ex London Cowboys), promises a mesmerizing performance of old school rock ‘n’roll through to tear jerker and hip shakers.

World-renowned guitarist Chester Kamen will showcase with his West London band: The Loves MC from Kensal road London. Chester has recorded with many top names including Dave Gilmore (Live Aid), Roger Walters (In the Flesh tour), Bryan Ferry (Girls and Boys album), Paul McCartney, Madonna, and Massive Attack.

Other bands appearing include unsigned hot new talent: Rock and pop / progressive rock bands Big Linda likened to the new Doors! The band are consummate professionals and are considered very hot this year. Unsigned regular band Astroman, do a unique hip-hop rock thing and are favorites with the locals, indie rock band Portasonic, wowed the ladies with intelligent lyricist Grant schmoozing the upstairs stage, jazz singer Delphi Newman, plus, Sam Margin, Jerry (stuff) many more. And as if that’s not enough to wet your appetite, there’ll be Elif’s Belly dancers, stand up comedian Ant the Rant, a saucy Burlesque show, and a top DJ line-up including Piers Thompson, dj Hu-man and dj Digesif. And all for just an £8 donation before 9.30 pm (more later!)

The KensalTownFund is managed by a core group of the Seven Knights of Kensal Green (The area originally being known as the Kings wood, on honey pot hill), all locals, passionate about music and supporting good causes both here and around the world. The charity enables showcases for up and coming talent in the musical and performance arts.  The charity’s first gig for the tsunami, also at the William IV, attracted scores of supporters and raised as much as £6.3k.
