Off the Floor - London Design Festival

Two designers, Fabien Cappello and Daniel Heath, have been wooed into the secret depths of Retrouvius. Their brief: to explore and expand our re-use philosophy by interpreting three salvaged materials.
The materials: Hopton Wood limestone salvaged from Frederick Gibberd's Heathrow Terminal 2. Oak drawers bottoms from the Natural History Museum and meranti parquet overlay salvaged from a school in north west London.
Our exhibition will run from 21 September until 2 October, 2010.
Adam and Maria love Fabien Cappello, his graduation show at the RCA amused and appealed with his redundant Christmas tree collection. Fabien has been awarded British council funded projects to Lisbon and the Korean Republic and a residency programme in Venice.
From our Heathrow Derbyshire fossil stone Fabien is hoping to create a "stone throne". Inspired by the memories, the hellos and goodbyes taken by the 319 million people as they traversed the Terminal 2 concourse. Thin oak shingles are currently being rejoined and pegged to form a wall of openings. Delicate meranti parquet from the 1950s is coming off the floor and being transformed to make extruded desks. This will be his first showing in London.
Daniel Heath is a textile designer who has long been transfixed with the highs and lows of the circus. Maria has worked with him on several of our high-end residential projects. Here we let him loose to apply his big top collection onto an unsuspecting palette of wood and glass.
Dan will also be hand painting sections of his intricate wallpaper designs during the show.
