Special Yoga Centre

The Special Yoga Centre (SYC), currently housed in the Tay Building on Wrentham Avenue, just off Chamberlayne Road, is searching for new premises.
The owner of this property has, just this week, implemented the first phase of its construction of new offices adjacent to the centre. The second phase of the project  comprises the construction of two flats above the usually tranquil yoga studios.

Understandably, amid the noise and disruption of the new building site, the centre cannot carry out its regular activities which focus on providing relaxation and calm to many people in the community including children with special needs and their families.

Therefore, there is an appeal to anyone who may know of a suitable space in the local area to inform director and founder, Jo Manuel, as soon as possible by either contacting the centre on 020 8968 1900 or emailing: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. About the Centre

The Special Yoga Centre is a Centre of Excellence in the training and facilitation of yoga for children and, in particular, yoga therapy for children with special needs.

Founded in 2004 by Executive Director, Jo Manuel, The Special Yoga Centre runs multiple yoga therapies and services.  These include outreach work in special schools, one-to-one yoga therapy at the centre, yoga classes for children with cerebral palsy and other physical challenges and group classes for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Some therapy programmes, in particular the one-to-one yoga therapy for children with special needs, are run on a donation basis so no family is ever turned away.

It is the only centre of our kind making yoga accessible to everyone regardless of age, ability, religion, ethnicity and economic status; the foundation block of the centre’s philosophy is one of inclusion.

Facts:
One term of yoga therapy given weekly to children at a special school in Brent showed:
100% improved concentration
50% improved behaviour
66.5% improved mood and
67% improved communication

The centre will soon be launching two new exciting fundraising initiatives for The Special Yoga Centre, these are: The Patrons Programme and the Major Donor Programme which have both been endorsed by Samantha Cameron.
